BYD Successfully Secured Its Inaugural 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Rating

Kajang, Malaysia, 10 October 2025 – The BYD brand entered the Southeast Asian market in 2022. Apart from its models’ exterior looks, BYD has also taken significant actions by offering a number of important vehicle safety technologies in its models.

The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) recently performed an assessment on BYD’s latest model, the BYD Seal. The Seal made an outstanding performance in its debut assessment, in which it successfully achieved a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating with an overall score of 92.07 points. The sedan obtained a total score based on the four assessed categories: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) with 38.44 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) with 16.60 points, Safety Assist (SA) with 19.52 points, and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) with 17.50 points.

The new BYD Seal, with variants assembled in China, offers various safety technologies across all its variants that are sold in Southeast Asian countries. It is equipped with standard features of nine airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) on both the nearside and offside of the vehicle, Auto High Beam (AHB), Pedestrian Protection (PP), ISOFIX for child seat and AEB for Motorcycle. Additionally, the model offers a Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) as standard equipment for front seat occupants and rear passengers, and it is also fitted with rear seat occupant detection in all its variants. Nonetheless, the sedan sold for the Philippines and Vietnam markets features SBR technology as standard fitment for both the driver and front seat passenger, while SBR for rear occupants is available as an optional fitment.

ASEAN NCAP acknowledges BYD’s support for efforts to strengthen vehicle safety in the region. We praise the brand for its commitment to road safety, as evidenced by the inclusion of various significant vehicle safety features in its models. This is clearly evident in their latest launched model, the BYD Seal, in which the majority of the technologies are available as standard equipment across all its variants. ASEAN NCAP is proud of BYD’s achievement and hopes the brand will continue to drive improvements in vehicle safety for all road users in the ASEAN region. As an organisation that provides independent safety information for consumers and encourages the adoption of advanced safety technologies, ASEAN NCAP will continue its efforts to promote safer vehicles in the ASEAN region. A heartfelt congratulations to BYD Seal for this important achievement!

The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP covering 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20.00 points of the overall score. This year, 2025, marks the final year of the 2021–2025 assessment protocol. Assessment under the 2026–2030 protocol will commence in January 2026.
